Bittersweet as Sarah Witty, The Nappy Collective CEO, elected to Federal Parliament
Media Release
The Nappy Collective today congratulated its CEO, Sarah Witty, on her election as the Member for Melbourne in the Federal Parliament.
“This is a bittersweet moment for all of us at The Nappy Collective,” said Chair of the Board, Sandra Jacobs.
“Sarah’s election to federal parliament is an enormous gain for Melbourne and Australia, but undeniably a loss for our organisation. Sarah leaves behind a legacy of compassion, growth and impact.”
Sarah joined The Nappy Collective during one of the most challenging periods in its history, following the global COVID-19 pandemic which impacted charities around the world. Under her leadership, the organisation rebuilt its operational capability, grew its national network of volunteers, increased its staff and achieved financial stability for the first time in several years.
In 2024, The Nappy Collective delivered a record number of nappies to families experiencing nappy stress across the country - this 2 million nappy milestone reflects Sarah’s unwavering commitment to practical, dignified support for those doing it tough.
As she heads to Canberra, Sarah Witty takes with her a deep commitment to social justice and a long-standing focus on the well-being of children and families.
Her voice in parliament will reflect the real-world needs of the families she has helped through The Nappy Collective and her belief that all children deserve the best possible start in life.
The Board will soon begin recruitment for a new CEO to guide The Nappy Collective into its next chapter. In the meantime, the Board and staff remain focused on ensuring the organisation continues to deliver vital support where it’s needed most.
“We are incredibly proud to see Sarah take her advocacy to the national stage,” Jacobs said. “We know she’ll carry the voices of parents and children with her and bring the same compassion and determination to Federal Parliament that she brought to our work.”
