THE NAPPY COLLECTIVE IS A COMMUNITY led INITIATIVE

We are a community based, not for profit run mostly by volunteers. While we are based out of Melbourne we have volunteer committees across Australia and continue to grow. Financial donations to The Nappy Collective support the work of diverting all donated nappies to families that need it most and are tax deductible.

THE COLLECTIVE VISION

Our vision is that every child in Australia has nappies to allow them to remain clean, healthy and happy.

THE COLLECTIVE MISSION

We provide nappies for children experiencing disadvantage across Australia by mobilising communities, raising funds and encouraging social change.

THE COLLECTIVE STRATEGIC GOAL

Our goal is to grow The Nappy Collective’s impact in the community by delivering 1 million nappies annually to children experiencing nappy stress.

THE COLLECTIVE VALUES

Community: Collective giving is at the heart of what we do. We harness the power of local communities to meet the needs of their most vulnerable.

Simplicity: Our ask of our supporters (and our offer) is simple and straightforward. This makes us agile in responding to community need and seeking out new opportunities.

Integrity: We do the right thing for the right reasons, even when no one is watching.

Respect: Our relationships are built on respect - importantly, with the organisations and families receiving our nappies, as well as our donors, supporters and colleagues.

Ethical: We are committed to being ethical and professional - making cost-effective use of time, skills and finances.

OUR STORY

In 2013, Melbourne mum Sandra Jacobs was volunteering at a women's domestic violence refuge, when she witnessed her first instance of nappy stress. The mums in the refuge had fled their homes with little more than the clothes on their backs, which meant they were facing many challenges. One thing they all had in common - they didn't have enough nappies to keep their little ones clean, dry and comfortable.

Sandra knew she had a half packet of nappies at home that her daughter had outgrown. It was enough to keep one child clean for a few days - but so many more were needed.

The light bulb moment - if she had an open packet of nappies that she no longer needed, then so would other parents. The potential nappy donations could bring relief to vulnerable families.

And that is when The Nappy Collective was born. Since that first donation, we have now provided over 8 million nappies to families in crisis.
